Abstract
295,793. Maplethorpe, H., and Hedleys, Ltd. March 13, 1928. Forging nuts; shearing-adjuncts.-A machine for manufacturing nuts from blanks cut off a bar comprises a rotary blank carrier, a shearing blade co-operating therewith, a rotary die holder and reciprocating pressing and piercing tools. The die holder d carrying a number of dies c is rotated intermittently by a pawl and ratchet device m, n and crank &c. p to bring the dies successively opposite the pushing, pressing, piercing and ejecting tools such as f, h, j, arranged in a circle on a reciprocating head k. Each blank is cut off from the end of a heated bar inserted in a hole s in a rotating carrier b by a blade u on a bar v reciprocated by links wand eccentrics x, the severed blank being carried round by the carrier b into position opposite one of the dies c and then pushed by the tool f into the die. During each complete step-wise rotation of the die holder d the blank is successively squeezed, part pierced, completely pierced, and finally ejected.
