Marking inscriptions on photographs.-Inscriptions on raw film material, produced according to the process of the parent Specification by the use of a solution of a dyestuff which penetrates into the support and dries quickly are protected from injury during subsequent liquid treatment of the film, for example in the polishing operation, by coating them with a colloid, which is insoluble in any of the solvents which may be used in such treatment, and is dissolved in a solvent which does not affect the dyestuff constituting the inscriptions. The coating may comprise benzyl cellulose dissolved in a mixture of acetone and benzene.
