Abstract

295,424. Shaw, G. S. May 11. 1927. Protectors, construction of; securing.-The heels and soles of footwear are provided with a tread of spongy absorbent material designed alternately to absorb and express mud and water during walking, so preventing splashing. The treads are preferably formed of sponge rubber or composition thereof, and may form the sole or heel or be attached in the form of pads. The pads may have a waterproof layer on the upper surface and a covering of fabric on the tread surface. In one construction, the spongy pad 1 is secured to a cup-shaped portion 3 of sheet rubber or the like by which it is held on the heel 5. In a modification, the absorbent pad is built up of a covering of pervious material enclosing a number of springs.
