Abstract

295,367. Sutherland, A. C. Aug. 12, 1927, [Convention date]. Harrows; teeth; draught devices. - A flexible harrow unit comprises rows of tine members A each formed by a flat metal plate constituting a link and having a point C projecting at rightangles from its edge at each end, the points at the two ends being of different lengths and extending in opposite directions, the tine members in each row being pivotally connected to those in front and those behind upon rods D extending transversely over the entire width of the harrow unit. Each point C has an inner or an outer straight edge, at right-angles to the edge of the member A, and an inclined edge meeting this straight edge at the top. For use in some positions in the harrow similar link members A having no points or one or other of the points C only may be used. The members A are provided with holes B near the ends and are threaded on rods D with distance sleeves E between them, end nuts F being provided on the rods to hold them on and allow of removal for transport and repair. A number of elements made in this way are arranged one behind the other, the tine members of one row being arranged in any desired relationship to those of another row and being varied in number in the different rows, and link members having no points or one long or short point only being used where required. All the long points being on one side of the harrow and the short ones on the other, the work may be varied by turning the harrow over. Owing to the shape of the points C also the work may be varied by pulling the harrow in opposite directions. Two or more harrow units may be connected alongside one another to one draught-rod H by links J threaded on the rod H and on removable bolts K passing through some of the tine members A, distance sleeves H' being provided between the links. A bracing bolt M may be provided at the centre. From the rod H extend a central draughtbar N and two converging stays 0 each including a link P to provide for adjustment. These links P may be connected to two of the links J. The draught attachment may be transferred to the other end of the harrow. A bow-shaped spreading and levelling bar R may be attached by chains R'.
