Abstract
295,152. Libert, A. Nov. 4, 1927. Gins.-In a cotton gin of the type comprising a gin roller, a doctor knife, and a beater shaft rotating in a grid-like trough, the beater shaft 6, Fig. 2 and 3, is mounted in vertically adjustable bearings and is polygonal in section and has removably secured to it reversible blades 7. The blades may be fitted with brushes 20, or leather, rubber, &c. blades 21, or metallic resilient blades 22. The cylindrical grid 5 is formed in two parts hinged together and carries a feed 'hopper 12. The grid is independently adjustable and is provided with a slot opposite the doctor knife 13 and gin roller 2. The cotton is removed from the roller 2 by a wooden batten 16, suspended by chains 17. The cotton is fed into the hopper 12 from a storage hopper 23 by a roller 24 carrying radial pins of different lengths. A sheet metal plate 26 is hinged to the hopper and is slotted at its end to allow passage of the pins on the roller 24. By altering the inclination of the plate 26 the number of pins operating to feed the cotton from the hopper can be varied, and, if desired, the hopper can be completely closed. The grid 5 is maintained in its closed position by springs 32.
