Abstract
294,924. Hobart Manufacturing Co., (Assignees of Johnston, H. L.). Aug. 1, 1927, [Convention date]. Intercon - necting guard with starting-gear.-In a motor-driven cutting &c. apparatus for food, wherein cutters are rotated in a container, a cover is provided and has locking-means associated with the motor switch whereby the motor cannot be operated except when the cover is in its protective position. A bowl 10 for meat, vegetables, &c. and a motor 11 driving suitable cutting knives 12 are mounted on a common base. the motor being pivoted so that it can be tilted to withdraw the knives from their operative position within the bowl. The cover 20 is looked in position by a member 32 which cannot be withdrawn when the switch 30 is on, and which engages an adjustable screw 42 carried by a flange 41. When the switch is off and the lock 32 is moved to the left, raising the cover 20 disengages the flange 41 from a spring-pressed latch 45 which is released and engages a series of notches 49 provided on the bottom of the lock 32 thereby holding it in position to prevent the movement of the switch to the " on " position. To prevent manual starting of the motor when the knives are exposed, the operative nose 50 of the latch 45 has a sharp upper edge 55 which is covered by the end of the lock 32, Fig. 4.
