Abstract

294,413. Benoit, L. Nov. 14, 1927. Parcelling eggs.-An apparatus for handling egg cartons comprises a conveyer for several trays which are formed with walls 20, 21, Fig. 4, providing a three-sided enclosure and with raised bottoms 23 providing depending channels 24 adjacent the sides thereof, the trays being adapted to receive egg cartons having their covers 29, Fig. 6, folded back so that the free edges thereof extend into the channels. Parallel conveyer chains 13, Fig. 1, mounted in a framing A carry pivoted between them the trays B, each of which is counterpoised by a weight 19 to keep it horizontal at all positions of the conveyer, the trays being additionally supported on the upper part of the conveyer by upstanding flanges on guide channels which are secured to the framing and receive the chains 13. Work tables are disposed adjacent the trays and at their level to facilitate transfer of the cartons to and from the trays.
