Guards, controlling.-The ram of a power-press is so connected by a bell-crank lever H to a swinging guard arm that the guard P is moved in front of the tools during the first part of the descent of the ram and remains substantially stationary during completion of the stroke. The lever H and adjustable guard arm D, 0 are pivoted on a bracket B, which may be fastened to the press by the bearing-cap studs. A bar N, secured to the ram or tool-holder, is connected by an adjustable link G to one of the holes in the short arm of the lever H, while one of the holes in the long arm is connected to the guard arm by a link I having holes at both ends arranged to give coarse and fine length adjustment. The adjustments allow for independent variations in the length and position of the ram and guard strokes. The Provisional Specification describes the use of slots in the link G and bell-crank-lever arms for adjustment purposes.
