Abstract

294,155. Schering-Kahlbaum Akt.-Ges. July 18, 1927, [Convention date]. Mixers with circulating-devices.-A stirring or mixing device employed in the hydrogenation of liquids comprises a container in which is a hollow spiral and a nozzle for injecting gas or vapour so as to induce a flow of liquids through the spiral the liquids being carried to a height above the normal level of the liquid. In the form shown, the gas is injected from a nozzle c into the bottom f of a vertical spiral having a cylindrical mantle g so that the liquid is forced up the spiral and over its top edge h. The gas is circulated' through the pipe b by a pump a. The spiral may be tubular and may be inclined or horizontal; it may also be arranged round the walls of the container i. The liquid may fall through another spiral. Perforations may be provided to permit the gas and liquid to have different speeds of passage. The spiral may also rotate.
