Abstract

293,483. Pearson, L. H., and Marshall, C. April 7, 1927. Magnetic instruments. -An electromagnetic sound - reproducing device comprising a damped armature resiliently mounted at its upper part and vibrated by a needle from a record, has the damping means arranged within the magnet poles and the needle-clamping screw is positioned and extended so as to permit of changing the needle without disturbing the dampers. A permanent horse-shoe magnet 1 carrying a split socket 5 for attachment to a tone-arm has detachable hollow pole pieces 1<a> secured by hollow screws 10 and supporting the coils 2, leads from which pass to terminals 4 on an insulating bridge piece 3. A metal armature 7 of rectangular section is suspended by a flexible strip from a block 6 secured to the magnet bridge, and its vibrations are damped by rubber blocks 12 mounted in the pole pieces and resting against plungers 11 adjustable by screws 13 engaging the hollow screws 10.
