Gases, separating mixtures of.-In the synthesis of ammonia and like processes in which gases are recirculated inert gases such as methane, argon, &c. are prevented from accumulating by purging a part of the gas, scrubbing it while still under pressure with a suitable non- volatile solvent, and if desired returning the purified gas to the system. Kerosene is a suitable solvent, By releasing the pressure on the solvent in stages the dissolved gases such as argon and hydrogen may be recovered in a comparatively pure condition. Power may also be recovered by causing the liberated gases to drive a. Pelton wheel.
