Clutches, friction.-In pneumatically-coutrolled apparatus for feeding a web of material intermittently to a cutting device, in which spaced perforations in the web passing over an air port determine the length of sections to be cut, the feed is actuated from a disc 4 through a vacuum clutch, comprising a plate 48 having a number of connected recesses 22 in communication with a source of vacuum and also with the air port controlled by the web. Normally, owing to the vacuum in the recesses 22, the plate 48 imparts its movements to the disc 4, but when a perforation in the web registers with the port, the vacuum is destroyed and the disc 4 comes to rest. To allow the feeding operation to be resumed a lever 50 may be pressed against the plate 48 by suitable means to increase the friction between the plate and disc 4, or a valve in the suction pipe may be. abruptly opened to cause sufficient vacuum in the recesses to recouple the plate 48 and disc 4.
