Abstract

293,034. Buchholz, M. June 30, 1927, [Convention date]. Turbidometers. - For protecting electrical apparatus, such as transformers, the gaseous &c. products of decomposition of the insulating media produced under abnormal conditions are passed between a source of heat and a receiving device such as a thermo-element, resistance &c., and the changes in the physical condition of the latter are arranged to control means for protecting the transformer &c. The source of heat a, provided with a reflector c, projects radiation along the tubes at the other end of which is the thermoelement &c. b. The gases &c. from the transformer &c. enter the tube by an aperture e and leave by an aperture f. The receiving device b is arranged in circuit with a measuring instrument h provided with a contact device i by which endangered apparatus may be directly or indirectly cut out or other protective, function exerted. To render the operation of the apparatus independent of external temperature changes there may be included in the circuit of the heat source a or in that of the receiver b or in each circuit a resistance which is automatically adjusted by a thermal element subjected to the external temperature. In the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) it is stated that apparatus as above described may be used to detect, or to measure the density of, smoke &c., and that the contact device can be used to operate an alarm, or to set fire-extinguishing apparatus in operation. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
