Crystallizng.-In the crystallization of nitrate of lime by solidification of a layer of the primed solution picked up from a tank 4 by an internally cooled rotary drum 1, adherence of the crystals to the drum is minimized by interposing between the drum surface and the primed solution 7 a layer 6 of supersaturated solution. This may be effected by heating the surface of the solution in the tank 4, or the inside or outside surface of the drum as by hot air or gas burner 5, between the scraper 8 and the liquid, whereby crystals are melted and a layer of supersaturated solution is formed.
