Abstract

291,855. Blackett, W. C. March 7, 1927. Reels.-A. multiple-grooved winding drum for receiving a number of ropes simultaneously comprises a series of dished members 5 mounted on a cylindrical core with detachable ends, and connected to each other at their outer edges and bolted to angle irons 12 at their inner edges, the arrangement being such that recesses are provided between the members in which the ropes are coiled upon themselves in spirals. Longitudinal stays 4 also are provided. Fig. 8 shows the modification necessary in the grooving of the ordinary cylindro-conical winding drum to accommodate twin ropes.
