Abstract

291,585. Holzapfel, A. C. April 30, 1927. Water-paints.-The interior surfaces of oilcracking retorts are protected by applying a paintlike composition comprising water-glass, water, a powdered solid alkaline earth (including magnesia) or compound of alkaline earth, and one or more powdered inert refractory mineral substances, and subjecting the coating to an oil-cracking temperature such as 900‹ F. upwards. A preferred composition comprises magnesite and/or slaked lime, with or without an inert pigment such as titanium oxide, fireclay being used as the refractory material. Examples of proportions are given. Two or three coatings may be applied, and if desired a temporary waterproofing coating of heavy mineral oil. Specifications 5291/95 and 15057/04 are referred to.
