Abstract

291,557. Thomas, G. C. March 29, 1927. Wheel scrapers on vehicles. -Lawn-mower and other horticultural rollers are furnished with scrapers normally held out of contact with them and provided with springs adapted to be released manually to press them into contact when desired, a box being provided to catch the scrapings. The scraper may consist of a metal bar 3 pivoted on two brackets 5 adjustably bolted to the framework of a lawn-mower. A lever arm 6 at one end is connected to a rod 7 passing through a key-hole slot in a plate 10 on one of the handle-bars and provided with an operating knob or handle 8, a spring 9 being adapted to press the scraper into yielding contact with the roller 1. An adjustable collar 14 and a spring 15 may be provided to limit the upward movement of the rod 7. The upper part of the rod 7 is cut away at the sides to pass through the narrow part of the key-hole slot in the plate 10 to hold the scraper out of action until needed. The scrapings fall into a box 17 detachably mounted in the brackets 5. The box 17 may be attached to or made integral with the scraper 3. Means may be provided for reversing the scraper when the movement of the roller is reversed. The scraper may be inclined to the roller at an opposite angle to that drawn.
