Supplying tools from magazines.-Relates to automatic needle changing devices. During outward movement of the tone arm the needle gripper is released b a lever coming against a fixed cam surface, and as the movement is completed a transfer plate is operated to deliver a fresh needle to the holder in which it is positiond by an adjustable form below. The needle is normally gripped on the socket 3, Figs. 1 and 4, by the wedge-shaped side 4a of a spring-pressed pin 4 slidable in the needle holder 1. When the tone arm is returned after playing, the part 7<b> of a lever 7 pivoted at 7<a> to a bracket 11 on the sound box is carried along a fixed cam surface 8, Fig. 5, whereby the lever 7 is rocked and allows the spring 6, Fig. 4, to slide the pin 4 and release the needle, which falls through the socket 3. As the tone arm completes its movement, the bracket 11 rides between fixed guides 12, 12<a> and acts on a lug 28 to rock a pivoted quadrant 21 having a. slot 23 to which a fresh needle is fed, and the needle is then carried to the vertical positions and falls through a slot in the pivot boss 30 of the quadrant and into the socket of the needle holder which is now immediately below.. The needle thus supplied is supported by a pivoted platform 13 below, which is grooved as shown at 16<a>, Fig. 6, to avoid damage to the point. As the tone arm is returned to starting position the lever 7 passes clear of the cam 8 and permits the spring 6 to move the pin 4 to grip the needle, and the needle point is carried out of the end of the groove of The pivoted platform 13, which can then be returned to normal position by the spring 14. The needles are supplied to the slotted quadrant 21, Figs. 1 and 7, from a magazine 17 which can be filled in the factory and has detachable engagement by flanges 18<a> with one wall 19 of the fixture within which the quadrant rocks, such wall having a channel 20 in continuation of the magazine so that, the needles can pass singly to the channel in the quadrant. A spring 24 effects return movement of the quadrant, and the passage of the needles thereto is facilitated by the sharp knock given by the spring-returned platform 13 to a projection 15 from the wall 19.
