Abstract
554,714. Machine gun magazine-feed. BAKER, C. W., and BOULTON PAUL AIRCRAFT, Ltd. July 5, 1939, No. 19625. [Classes 92 (i) and 92 (ii)] Drum magazines 16 are fed to heavy machine guns 32, more especially aircraft guns, by a poweroperated lever 10 which raises the magazines from a supply position along guide rails 30 to the gun breech, the empty magazines, when released from the gun falling along additional guide rails 52 to a position 54 clear of the supply. Side pins 24, 26 on the magazines engage and move aside on the upward journey pivoted spring-pressed switch-levers 44 which return to provide a guide to the rails 52 on the return of an empty magazine. Laterally-curved surfaces 54 serve to roll the empty magazines to one side clear of the lever 10. Slots 38 in sector plates 36 fast with the gun trunnions 42, and a fixed arcuate guide surface 40, ensure the supply and release of the magazines at a predetermined gun loading angle. Specification 525,336 is referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 558,519.
