Abstract

291,286. Aktiebolaget Svenska Kullagerfabriken. July 25, 1927, [Convention date]. Linear-dimension gauges.-Comprises a limit gauge for holes in which the lines of maximum and minimum dimension are in the same plane as the axis of the gauge and are inclined with respect to one another in that plane, whereby to change from a minimum dimension to the maximum it is only necessary to tilt the gauge axis in the said plane without withdrawing the gauge from the hole. In one form Figs. 1, 2 a gauging member 1 made in one piece with or attached to a handle 2 has two opposite curved surfaces 3, 4 which are segments of a cylinder and are symmetrically disposed with respect to the gauge axis a-a, the diametrical distance A between these surfaces constituting the minimum dimension. The opposite ends of these portions 3, 4 are chamfered by grinding in order to form two curved gauging surfaces 5, 6 and the distance B between them represents the maximum dimension. To test a hole, the gauge is pushed into the hole with the axis a-a coinciding with the hole axis, and if correct, no opposition is offered to insertion. The maximum dimension is then tested by rocking the gauge in the direction of the arrow in Fig. 1. If the hole is correct as to this dimension there will be a tendency for the two ridges formed by the junction of maximum and minimum gauging surfaces to join in the hole, and this will be indicated by the sound of a click when the gauge is brought back to the first position. In a second form, Fig. 3, the gauge is formed of a spherical surface of the diameter of the minimum dimension through which is bored a hole at an angle to the axis a-a and in the bore is secured a pin 10 which projects at its spherical ends from the curved surface. The length of the pin constitutes the maximum dimension. The pin 10 may not extend completely through the member 1 and two diametrically opposite raised bosses may be employed instead of the pin. Furthermore, a single raised part or projection may be used and it may be deposited on the member 1 by an electrolyte process or it may be adjusted in a groove in the member 1.
