Abstract

290,796. Aron, W. P., and Gahagan, H. I. April 8, 1927. Razors, safety.-Relates to a construction of safety razor in winch the blade is reciprocated parallel to the cutting edge by an intermittently energized electromagnet. The magnet, comprising a winding 5 and core 7, is housed in a hollow handle 1 of bakelite &c., and is supplied with alternating or interrupted current from an external source, not shown. The handle is closed by a cap 3 secured to or integral with which is a guard member 19. To the lower side of the guard is secured a flexible armature 49 having an inclined upstanding finger with a hooked upper end 57 which passes freely through a hole 59 in the guard and engages a notch 37 in the back edge of the blade 29. The armature also has a finger-piece extension 65. Vibrations of the armature reciprocate the blade and the throw may be adjusted by adjusting a screwthreaded pole-piece of core 7 passing through the cap 3 and secured in adjusted position by a set-screw 9. The blade 29 has two notches 37, symmetrically disposed, formed in its back edge, and then has applied thereto a backing 27 provided with an opening 39 which exposes one slot 37, and with a recess 43 for engagement by the finger-nail to facilitate removal of the blade when desired. The backing 27 provides longitudinal rib-like projections, the lower of which rests on the surface of the guard, which also has a rib 31 on which the blade rests near its cutting edge. The upper rib engages in a recess formed in the cover 23 and serves to guide the reciprocating blade. The cover is secured in place by screws and has a recess 61 registering with the hole 59 in the guard. When it is desired to remove the blade, finger piece 65 is pressed to raise the armature, the end of finger 57 entering the recess 61 and moving clear of the notch 37, so freeing the blade, which may then be removed endlong bv means of finger-nail recess 43.
