Abstract

290,527. Brown, S. C. Dec. 6, 1927. Sight-testing apparatus.-Comprises a method of and apparatus for sight-testing in which advantage is taken of the chromatic aberration of the eye. A test object is utilized, part of which is illuminated by coloured light having a certain dominant wave length, and the other part of which is illuminated by coloured light having a wave length differing from that of the previous coloured light. In a normal unaccommodated eye the images of the object will be formed one part in front of and the other part behind the retina, appearing equally sharp. A number of fixed groups of radiating lines or slots a - - g are arranged around a central group b, which is capable of rotation in its own plane, and one half of each group is backed with one colour screen, e.g, green, and the other half of each group with another colour screen, e.g. red. Lenses are placed before the eyes of the patient until each half of every group appears equally distinct. The rotatable group h is utilized to determine the meridian of any astigmatic correction necessary.
