Abstract

Portable turning-apparatus; cutters.-A cutting-tool for facing, countersinking and like operations comprises a circular blank 26 having radial slits 27, which divide the cutter into a number of leaves which are twisted so that the radial edges lie in different planes and provide cutting edges 30 on each side of the disc. In a modification, Fig. 6, the cutter comprises elements 32 which are bent up from the plane of the disc portion 31 and are then twisted transversely so as to provide an internal cutting-edge 35 and an external cutting-edge 36 on opposite sides of each element. In another modification, each of the elements 32 overlaps adjacent elements. The contours of the cutting-edges may be varied according to the shape of surface required. For refacing a valve seating, a member 10 is threaded at its upper portion 11 to receive the operating-handle 12. The cutter is screwed against, a shoulder 16 of the locating- member which is screwed at 14 into the member 10 and is provided with a stem 15 fitting in the valve guide. For trueing up a valve, Fig. 2, the handle is removed, the cutter is screwed over the threads 11, and the valve 20 is rotated by a suitable tool.
