Abstract
290,166. Muchka, J. May 7, 1927, [Convention date]. Purifying liquids. -Free chlorine is separated from chlorinated water by passage through carbon or carbonaceous material in a vessel provided, after the manner of sand filter, with a reflux device, preferably a jet nozzle, bv means of which the material may be re-distributed and, if desired washed. The chlorinated water is supplied by a pipe 6 to a trough 5, and passes through carbonaceous material a in the vessel 1. The dechlorinated water is discharged through perforated tubes 4 and a pipe 13. The bed is washed by chlorinated water supplied to the tubes 4 from a pipe 16, and the carbonaceous material is carried up a pipe 8 for re-distribution over the surface of the bed by chlorinated water supplied to a. nozzle 7 by the pipe 16. The pipe 6 has a drain connection 18. The wall of the container may be lined with the material sold under the Registered Trade Mark " Bakelite " or other material resistant to chlorine.
