Abstract

290,124. Clark, D'A. M., (Bendix Brake Co.). April 12, 1927. Divided on 282,261. Blocks acting on drums; compensating for wear. - Anchoring means for a pair of floating shoes operated by a floating cam 116 comprises a pair of plates 108 on opposite sides of the ends of the shoes and fixed to the brake backing-plate by means of bolts 112. Rollers 106, engaged by the brake-operating cams, are provided on each side of the ends of the shoes, and the pivots 104 of the rollers are extended on each side and adapted to engage notches in the anchoring plates. The pivots 104 are provided with enlarged central portions received in the shoe webs and reinforcing members 102 and engaged by the rollers on each side of the shoe to prevent axial movement. A yielding rest for the shoe comprises washers 80, held by a cotter 82, Fig. 3, on the end of a pin 84, surrounded by a spring 88. A positioning device 90 frictionally clamped to the shoe 60 by a bolt 96, and engaged by washers 92 comprises a slot 94, wider than pin 84 to allow movement of the shoe and the member 90 on application of the brake; if wear of the brake lining has taken place the member 90 is shifted. The shoe 62 is provided with a similar yielding rest 100. The. floating operating cam 116 which is arranged between the plate 108 comprises a pair of stampings formed with large clearance openings for the brake-applying shaft 52 which allows the cam to float about a pivot 121 which connects it by a lever 122 to the shaft 52.
