Flotation processes for the treatment of ores, coal, graphite, &c. are carried out in the presence of polythionates or other derivatives of polythionic acids, particularly polythionates of polyvalent metals. There may also be present substances such as acids or alkalies which yield or produce hydrogen ions or hydroxyl ions in the pulp, and such substances may be applied successively for effecting differential flotation of constituents or groups of constituents present.
