Abstract
289,843. Lloyds & Co. (Letchworth), Ltd., (Assignees of Zeyslolff, P.). May 4, 1927, [Convention date]. Rotary apparatus.- Apparatus for automatically sprinkling areas of varying shape c, g, circular, squane, rectangular triangular &c. comprises a base on which is mounted a horizontal platform 1, the edge of which is provided with teeth 2 and the upper surface is, provided with a number of circular roller paths 3 presenting hills and valleys at different parts. A hollow member 5 integral with a, tube 6 which turns in a stuffing box 7 carries an inclined nozzle 13 in front of which is hinged a second nozzle 14 supported by a rod 15 of adjustable length the lower end of which carries a roller to engage the roller paths 3. Rotatably and slidably mounted on a pin 8 carried by the member 5 is a wheel 9 provided with vanes of varying length, and traversed by arms carrying governor balls 10, these arms being pivoted to arms 11 carrying an eccentric 12. The rod 15 moves in a guiding member 19 provided with a number of holes 19a through which a cotter may be passed to maintain the roller in engagement with one of the rol'er paths, the cotter holes being marked with a figure to indicate the shape and size of the area to be sprinkled. Around the central opening are a number of surfaces 4 having various outlines the position and shape of which correspond to the shape sprinkled when the roller engages the different paths 4 and serve to indicate the position in which the apparatus should be placed. A jet of water from the nozzle 13, the range of which is varied by varying the height of the second nozzle 14 engages the vane wheel 9 and causes it to rotate. Rotation of the wheel 9 rotates the eccentric 12 which engages a fork 21 and causes the lever 21 to reciprocate pawl mechanism by which the nozzle is slowly rotated around the central column, the range of the jet being varied as it rotates by the irregularities of the roller path. Normally the governor lifts the wheel 10 so that only the longest vanes are engaged by the jet, but on the speed falling the wheel is lowered and the shorter vanes are engaged. A stop 23 which may be placed in any desired position, engages a lever 22 to throw over the pawl mechanism and thus rotate the apparatus in the opposite direction. By this means any portion of an area of desired shape may be sprinkled.
