Abstract

289,104. Television, Ltd., and Baird, J. L. Oct. 15, 1926. Television.-A changing scene is recorded by exploring it in relation to a light-sensitive cell, applying the resulting modulated current to a telephonic receiver, and recording the sounds on a phonographic or like member. As shown diagrammatically in Fig. 1, the scene 10 is explored by devices 11, 12 in relation to a lightsensitive cell 13, the current, amplified at 14, is applied to a loud-speaker 19 associated with a microphone 20, and the current from the microphone is applied to devices 15, 16 operating to record the sounds corresponding to the scene on a phonographic disc 18. The exploring and recording devices are preferably geared together. Speech or other sounds associated with the scene may be. recorded simultaneously on the same disc by devices 22, 23 supplied from the microphone 21 separated from the microphone 20 by a soundproof partition 24. The grooves of the sight and sound records may be parallel grooves of a double spiral, or may be on opposite sides of the disc, or at opposite ends of a cylinder. Preferably one record is formed on the bottom of the groove and the other on the side. Alternatively a single groove may be used for the two records by forming one record on the bottom and the other on the side. The scene is reproduced from the record by utilizing the vibrations of a needle applied to the record track to modulate the current applied to the variable light source in a television reeeiving apparatus. Such modulation may be effected by the use of a microphonic contact or by electromagnetic induction. The exploring device described in Specification 265,640 and the variable light source described in Specification 267,056 [Class 39 (i), Electric lamps, Are &c.] may be used.
