Abstract
288,374. Fey, E. C. Jan. 8, 1927. Boxing games, mechanical. - Relates to apparatus for playing a boxing game of the kind in which two pivoted figures are adapted to move toward each other in fighting attitude and are each manually operable to effect a knock-out of the other, and consists in operating means for bring- ing the arms of either figure into contact with a predetermined portion of the other figure so as to actuate mechanism for turning the latter into horizontal position. Two figures 5, Fig. 1, are each pivoted to an L- shaped plate 26 and adapted to be independently manoeuvred over a platform 3 by handles 34 mounted on the plates. The arms 6, 7 of each figure are simultaneously operated by pressing down a rod 33. the end of which projects from the handle, with the object of striking the head of the other figure, thus operating mechanism to allow the latter figure to fall backwards into prone position. The feet of each figure are attached to a plate 27, Figs. 5, 6 and 11, projecting from the barrel 22 of a hinge, the supporting flange 23 of which is secured to the plate 26. The figure is normally held in erect position by the engagement under a latch plate 14, of the hooked end 12 of a rod 9 that extends upwardly through the body of the figure and is attached to the head 8, Fig. 8. When the head is rotated under the impact of a blow, the rod 9 turns against the action of springs 11 and the hook 12 disengages the latch, thus allowing the figure to fall backwards under the action of a weight 42 depending from a crank 43 on the hinge barrel 22. The arms 6, 7 of each figure are pivoted on a rod 15 and extend through diverging slots in the body of the figure. A rod 19 extending upwardly through the figure terminates in a frame 17 that is connected to the two arms on opposite sides of the rod 15; so that an upward movement of the rod elevates the arm 6 and depresses the rod 7. The lower end of the rod 19 engages, when the figure is in erect position, with the flanged end 20 of the hinge pintle 21. The other end of the pintle is connected through a rotatable shaft 29 to the operating rod 33 that extends upwardly through the handle 34. The plate 26 is anchored to a sub-plate 37 and the sub-plate to the platform 3 by means of pin and slot connections, the two sets of slots 35, 38 being arranged at right-angles to allow a limited movement of the plate 26 in any direction. A spring-operated locking-lever 47 is normally retained in inoperative position by a catch 53, but is released, when the figure assumes prone position, to lock the shaft 29 and prevent movement of the figure in a direction at right-angles to the face of the apparatus. The apparatus is re-set by the actuation of a lever 45 to raise a platform 44, which, in rising, engages the weight 42 to restore the figure to erect position, and also engages a roller 52 on the locking-lever 47 to move the latter into inoperative position.
