Abstract
288,203. Poeppelmeier, F. H. April 4, 1927, [Convention date]. Setting type.-Relates to means for imparting a step-by-step feed movement to a type-receiving drum or flat chase. On a support 1, Fig. 1, is mounted an ejector housing 3, which supports a shaft 4 bearing at one end a crank-disc 7. A crank-pin on the disc engages the ejector-arm 17 of the type-ejecting mechanism, by which the selected type is ejected upon a drum 18. The shaft 4 is driven by a chain 8 and sprocket-wheels from a member 10, which is frictionally driven from a motor 13. The drum 18 is supported on discs 22, 26, Fig. 2, which are loosely mounted on a shaft 19, and have their lower parts filled with lead or other heavy material, in order to balance the weight of the drum. the drum is removably held in position by hooked arms 31, which engage an eccentric part of the shaft 19. The drum is positioned, to receive the type, by a feed-pawl 36, Fig. 1, having a downwardly projecting nose 37, to engage the T-shaped slots of the drum. The pawl is reciprocated by a lever 34 and a camgroove 40 in a drum-cam 39, mounted on a shaft 11, and is disengaged from the drum 18 by a lever 62, operated by a cam 70 on the shaft 11. The drum is locked in adjusted position by a pawl 72a, which engages the slots of the drum, and is operated by a spring lever 76, the lower end of which rests between lugs 79, 81 on a lever 80 actuated by a cam-groove 41. The drumcam 39 can slide on the shaft 11, and is driven by pins on a collar 43, secured to the shaft. The drum-cam can be moved along the shaft by means of a hand-lever 92, in order to disengage the pawls 36, 72<a>. The shaft 11 can be driven from the rotating member 10 through a clutch comprising a stud 49. which can be engaged by a sliding clutch-member 51 under the action of a spring 53. The clutch-member 51 is normally held out of engagement by a pawl 52, which can be withdrawn by the action of a solenoid under the control of a keyboard. After one revolution, the clutch is disengaged by a cam-surface on the pawl 52. The speed of the member 10 is controlled by an adjustable brake-band.
