288,145. Rogers, F. H., (Steingõsser & Co.). March 26, 1928. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, April 2, 1928]. Block, rubber, and like apparatus; disc apparatus.-In a wood grinding and polishing machine, the tool 4 is mounted eccentrically on a rotating shaft 1 and is given, during each revolution, a reverse rotation so that any line on the tool remains parallel to itself. The tool is rotatably mounted on a carriage 5 adjustable, to vary the eccentricity, on a guide 3 secured to the shaft 1. The reverse rotation is produced by a spur-wheel 13 which rolls on a fixed wheel 12 and drives a belt 16 passing around guide pulleys 9 and around a pulley 6 on the tool. The pulleys 9 are carried by a slide 7 which is moved to one half the extent of the movement of the carriage when. adjustment for ecentricity is made, a spindle 17 having a thread 19 of double the pitch of a thread 20 serving for making that adjustment. In a modification, the reverse rotation is obtained by toothed gearing, a device being incorporated for keeping the gears in mesh during the adjustments for eccentricity.
