Rectal appliances; massage. - An anal massage device comprises a cylindrical member having an enlarged end 3 and formed of two or more separable portions 1 which are connected at the other end to the separating means which preferably comprises lever arms 2 pivoted at 7 and having handles 6. In one form, Fig. 3, the member is formed hollow and is provided with chamfered edges 5 to prevent the membranes being pinched, and with a flange 4 to prevent its entering too far. The rear portion of the member 1 may be of non-corrodible metal. or ebonite, or of rubber or other flexible material. The member 1 may be disposed at various angles with respect to the arms 2. In a modification, Fig. 7. gripping of the membranes by the member 13 is prevented by inflation of a rubber or other vessel 17 disposed therein, the vessel being connected by a tube 14 to an inflating bulb 15 which may be placed between the arms 2. The vessel 17 has an aperture 18 in which a lubricant such as oil or a medicated plug may be inserted, the lubricant being extruded on inflation of the vessel. In further forms the portions 1 of member are forced apa.rt by springs which are kept closed by a catch during introduction of the member into the anus. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also the provision of a rubber cover for the cylindrical member to prevent pinching. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
