Preventing distortion during tanning. - In tanning fish skins, particularly those from ray fish, after the usual liming, two skins of approximately equal size are fastened together with their flesh sides opposed and tanned in this position. The fastening may be by sewing and the tanning can be followed by dyeing before the skins are separated. This procedure avoids the curling of the skin which normally occurs during tanning.
