Crank shafts. - In built-up crank shafts of the kind in which a crank-pin end is grooved to interengage with projections formed on the interior of a hole 2 in the web 1, which is provided with a slot 3 at its end to permit the web to be tightened upon the pin by a screw arranged in a cross-hole, 8, two projections 4 only are employed and are placed at 60‹ on each side of the web axis. The hole 2 is first bored to a diameter corresponding to that of the tops of the projections 4, and by means of a scraping or trimming tool material is removed to form three projections arranged at 120‹, the unnecessary projection being removed when the slot 3 is milled.
