Abstract

287,503. Spezialfabrik f³r Aluminium- Spulen und-Leitungen Ges. March 22, 1927, [Convention date]. Insulating coverings for conductors.-Articles such as wires, bands, &c. of aluminium or aluminium alloys are provided with an elastic insulating covering of oxide by treating the articles with oxidizing liquids, gases or in an electrolytic bath and subjecting the articles during the treatment to mechanical treatment such as hammering, beating, rubbing or bending. In an example wires or bands are guided through an electrolytic bath, in which they act as an anode, over pins or rollers alternately arranged so that the wire &c. assumes a zig-zag shape and is bent to and fro while passing through the bath. The bath may comprise organic acids such as oxalic acid or inorganic acids such as chromic or nitric acids.
