Rollers and roller heads.-Relates to spinning, twisting, roving, and like machines wherein the pressure between the upper and lower front rollers is effected by spring weighting- means functioning diametrically through the two lines of rollers to urge them. together without communicating the pressure to the bearings of the lower roller shafting. The front rollers are spring weighted by means of hanger bolts 6 co-operating with abutment members 11, which carry bearing pads 13 or a pair of antifriction rollers for the lower roller shaft 5, so as to tend to draw the arbors 3 of the top rollers and the shaft 5 towards each other, and means is provided whereby the pressure on all the hanger bolts is relieved simultaneously on one or both sides of the machine without disturbing the direction of application of the weighting force. The bearing pads may be formed with inclined grooves to receive semi-solid lubricant or may be provided with a lubricant-well 13<c>. The weighting-spring 11<c>, Fig. 6, may be housed in a tubular extension 11<a> of the member 11 between the pad 13 and a plunger 11<b>, the pressure being relieved by a cam 15<b> on a lever 15 rocked by a bar 16 which serves the whole of the rollers on one side of the machine, or a spring 8, Fig. 8, adjustable by a wing nut 9, may be applied to the hanger bolt and the pressure relieved by cam and lever mechanism as before described but acting directly on the bearing pad, or by means of arms 18 mounted on a shaft 20 and acting upon extensions 11f of the abutment members.
