Abstract

286,702. Sanborn, G. O. March 9, 1927. [Convention date]. Preserving fruits.-Relates to a method of and means for packing baked apples, pears, peppers. tomatoes, and like fruits. Apples &c. are baked at a temperature of about 300‹ F., for thirty to forty minutes so as not to effect disintegration, and are then placed in receptacles 7, Fig. 5, of paper or similar material. The receptacle has substantially cylindrical walls 8 and a base 9 with apertures 10. A number of filled receptacles are placed in a can 11, Fig. 4, division pieces 12', Fig. 6, similar to the bases 12, being placed between the tiers. The can is filled with hot syrup, a cover 14 applied and sealed, and the container is subjected to a temperature of about 145‹ F., to effect sterilization and to complete the cooking of the contents. When the fruits are to be packed one above the other, the cylindrical walls 8 of the container are omitted, and pieces 9, similar to the bases of the receptacles, separate the fruits.
