Plßnes, construction of; steering and balancing. -An aeroplane has the main dimensions of its wrings in the direction of flight, the leading edges converging forwardly at an acute angle to one another and being bent upwards or constructed of an increased thickness or both. Fig. 1 shows in full and dotted lines several alternative plan 'forms of the wings, the upper surface being con. tinuous with the upper surface of the fuselage. Other alternatives are referred to in which the front edge of the combined wings has a central rearward indentation and the rear edge a rearward central projection. Fig. 7<A> shows the arrangement of two elevators 5 and two ailerons 4 in the rear edges of the wings. When a thin wing is used the central portions may be set at a dihedral angle and the edges at a greater dihedral angle.
