Abstract

286,174. Cleathero, E. T. Sept. 26, 1927. Addition to 260,486. Bed-reciprocating apparatus.-The bed-reciprocating mechanism described in the parent Specification is modified by replacing the gear-andrack reversing mechanism, which consisted of a rack on the bed geared to a rack on a reciprocating carriage l, by a pawl-and-abutment mechanism for driving the bed during reversal. The carriage l is operated by a crank m on a shaft o driven at thrice the speed of the segmental driving-gears d, e, and during the times of reversal the carriage l is connected to the bed by means of abutments i, j on the bed which are held between a projecting piece l<1> of the carriage and one edge of a double pivoted pawl k<1>. The pawl is controlled by a bowl k<2> engaging a cam groove in a fixed bracket t. As shown the right end of pawl k<1> is coming out of operation after the bed has been reversed from moving towards the left to moving towards the right, and after the wheel d has finished its drive to the right, the reversal of motion is effected by the engagement of block i between the projection l<1> and the left pawl k<1>.
