Abstract

Blowpipe burners.-In a blowpipe apparatus for cutting metals of the kind in which the cutter head is moved over the work as controlled by a trace moving in relation to a template &c., a valve chest having two valve-controlled passages for oxygen connected to a common inlet and, if desired, a passage for gas, is mounted, remote from the cutter head on the tracer member or on the part carrying the tracer member and adjacent thereto, to facilitate adjustment of the valves during operation of the machine. The upper limb 2 of the bifurcated arm 1, 2 of a two-part hinged frame supporting the tracer 17 and cutter head 13, carries a valve chest 4. which is connected to a single oxygen inlet 8 and from which emerge two passages 6, 7 provided with valves 9, 10 and connected by tubes 14, 15 respectively with the mixing chamber 12 and with the inner tube of the cutter head. The gas may be supplied to the mixing chamber either direct or through a passage 5, preferably valved, in the valve chest, and tube 11. The mixing chamber may be arranged either in the cutter head or in the .valve chest. The tubes 11. 14 15 are preferably flexible or provided with flexible connections to the cutter head.
