Paints and varnishes, removing.-Coatings of paints, varnish, enamel, wax, &c. are removed by a material containing, as a solvent, a substance having the type formula R.O.CnH2n - - CxH2xOR1, where R is an acidyl group, R1 is an alkyl or aryl group, n and are any integers and the dotted line is a simple bond or a divalent radicle. In a particular case. the type formula is indicated by ROCnH2nO - - CxH2xOR1 R and R, being as before n and x being 2, or 3. and the dotted line is a simple bond, C2H4O or C3H6O. Suitable substances are the esters of glycol or polyglycol ethers, the acetates of the ethyl ethers of di- and tri-ethylene glycols, and of ethylenepropylene glycol, being specified. The solvents may be used in admixture with more. volatile solvents.
