Abstract
285,824. I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges. Feb. 21, 1927, [Convention date]. Electrolytes, circulating. - In apparatus for the electrodeposition of metals, the electrolyte is introduced below the electrodes 4 in a divergent stream, passes upwardly between the electrodes in a parallel stream, and flows into discharge troughs 6 over weirs 5 disposed to provide a uniformly distributed outflow. The height of the weirs may be adjusted to uniformity by means of thin glass plates. The cell is provided with a prismatic, pyramidal, or conical bottom 2 into which projects an entrance pipe 3 in such a way as to provide a trap for sludge. Alternatively the walls 2 may constitute a false bottom provided with a central aperture or apertures, sludge being collected in the lower chamber. A long cell may be provided with a number of entrance apertures, and pyramidal lower walls converging to each aperture. Separate weirs may be disposed opposite the end of each electrode.
