Abstract
285,162. Lier, L. van, and Lier, S. van. Nov. 13, 1926. Fixing by dovetail and grooved members.-A surgical or like knife has a detachable relatively thin. blade 6 to which support and rigidity is given by a channel extension 5 of a handle 4 receiving the back of the blade. The shank portion 9 of the blade enters a slot in the handle and preferably has a curved form seating against the correspondingly curved base 10 of the slot. The extension 5 merges into the handle along a curve 7 with bevelled edge to avoid corners in which dirt might - lodge. The blade is secured in place by means of a rotatable cam-member 14 operable by a lever 15, and shaped so that in one position it can pass into a key-hole slot in the blade shank as the blade is being inserted, and is then rotated to secure the blade, the cam action pressing the blade against the bottom of the slot in the handle. In an alternative form the blade is passed longitudinally into the handle and is held by a semicircular cam which, when rotated, engages a semicircular notch in the edge of the blade shank.
