Abstract
285,038. Metallbank und Metallurgische Ges. Akt.-Ges. Feb. 9, 1927, [Convention date]. Oils, recovering; fats and fatty oils, oxidized.- Gasolene is adsorbed from natural gas, and oils are oxidized by air or oxygen by a process in which the velocity of the ascending gas current is adjusted to retain the adsorbent or oil in suspension until the reaction is completed, and is them increased, in a pulsatory manner if desired, to drive the material out of the reaction chamber. The oil is separated from the gas in known manner. The tower in which the process is conducted may advantageously be flared or coned outwardly in the upward direction so that the velocity of a current of gas introduced at the lower end diminishes upwards. In this arrangement the particles need not be uniform in dimensions as they descend to points in the tower at which the gas velocity is sufficient to retain them in suspension. Two such towers may be used in conjunction, the gas being diverted from one to' the other when the action has been completed to allow the residual material to settle down and be withdrawn. A suitable construction of tower is shown in the figure combined with a cyclone separator E. According i,o the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) the velocity of the gas current may be adjusted so that the transfer of material from the reaction chamber is continuous. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
