Rotary mixers.-In a rotary mixer, more particularly for use in sugar manufacture, of the kind comprising a rotary, horizontal, jacketed drum, the jacket is divided into baffled compartments through each of which water is circulated whereby a more even temperature is attained, and the drum is stayed by diagonal members which support helically-arranged stirrers and may be hollow to form communicating passages between the compartments. Fig. 3 is a diagrammatic representation of the compartments formed in the jacket of the drum shown in Fig. 1. The compartments 1, 2, 3 are formed by longitudinal partitions G, each compartment being provided with a baffle g and pipe connections to main supply and discharge pipes b, b<1>. The drum is mounted in bearings and the distributing pipes H<1>, I<3> are connected to passages in the hollow journal B<1>. In other forms the jacket is divided into two sets of compartments supplied by connections to the journals at both ends and the diagonal stays J, on which the helical stirring members K are mounted, serve as connections between the compartments, while in a further form the drum is provided with a hollow axle which serves as a discharge for the heating water and is connected to the compartments by hollow radial stays.
