Stands or supports for vehicles. - A poweroperated screw lifting-jack for attachment to a motor vehicle &c. has an adjustable securing clamp and an automatic end stop gear for switching off the current to an electric motor which either operates the jack directly or through suitable clutch or switch mechanism connects the jack to the engine of the motor vehicle or other source of power. The casing b of the jack is externally screwed and carries screwed clamping plates f<1> which can be rotated for adjustment so that they can be clamped by a bolt g to the vehicle axle h. The casing b is internally screwed and engages the lifting screw a, which is traversed through the casing for lifting or lowering the load as it is rotated in one direction or the other by means of a worm d and a wormwheel c having keys engaging slots in the lifting screw or by toothed gearing. The lower end of the lifting screw is screwed into a cap m which secures a ball-ended pin k in position. The ballended pin is secured to a hemispherical foot i provided with stops i<1> adapted to be engaged by the flared end m<1> of the cap m to limit lateral movements of the foot. The worm-wheel or other gearing is driven directly by an electric motor o or by the engine of the vehicle or other source of power through suitable clutch or switch mechanism controlled bv the motor o. Mechanism for automatically cutting off the power at the end of the stroke comprises a pin p slidably mounted in the lifting screws and in a support w and carrying discs p', p<2> adapted to be engaged by the top y of the lifting screw at the end of the stroke. As the pin p is moved up or down a switch arm q carried by the pin is correspondingly moved from a contact q<1> to a contact q<2> or vice versa, so cutting off the supply of current from the vehicle accumulator n to the motor o. By operating the reversing switches s<1>, t', the motor is rotated in the opposite direction and the movement of the jack is reversed.
