Abstract

282,482. Wiggin, H. Sept. 14, 1926. Heating and cooking vessels.-A wire basket used for such purposes as cooking chipped potatoes, is formed of metal strips, each having a set of tongues cut out and pressed back to receive the wires which are held by clenching over the tongues. The strips are not transversely grooved, as has been previously proposed, to assist in retaining the wires. As shown in Fig. 1, a chip basket comprises strips A, B intersecting at the centre of the bottom, and bent up to form part of the sides. The tongues Care directed in opposite directions on each side of the intersecting point. The wire D is secured at one end to a tongue near the centre of the bottom, and is laid scroll-wise around the strips which are curled, at their tops, over a stout wire frame G which also forms the handle. The strips are connected at the point of intersection by passing a tongue of one strip through a hole in the other. The tongues are preferably curled slightly inwards at their ends. The article may be tinned, the tin by entering the intersections making the connection between the wire and the strips more secure.
