Abstract

Foot-arch supports.-A sprung support for the arch of the foot comprises a single member c, Fig. 1, placed between the sole and insole, rigidly secured at one end to the sole of a shoe and shaped so that it can move relatively thereto at the other. Various devices are provided to limit the movement at the free end. For example, the forward end of the spring may have an elongated slot d to engage a fixed stud e in the shoe, the spring may engage a fixed cap or guide in the shoe, or a plate on the sole may be provided with a channel to engage a stud on the end of the spring c. In another modification, Figs. 6 and 7, the tension of the spring c is adjusted by a pin q passing through a bush r in the shoe. The upper end of the pin q carries a head q' which, by turning an arm q<2>, can be brought into locking engagement with ratchet teeth p on each side of a slot s in the spring. In this way, by bending the side of the shoe, the spring may be adjusted.
