DEVICE FOR PULLING DOWN THE HEEL PORTIONOF SPORTS BOOTS I Filed Apiil s, 1940 I fi 1S I' u 10 "I. I I E I) L. @b' S lhvewr fi r g filzggmann Patented Oct. 21, 1941 UNITED STATES ATENT OFFICE George Pflugmann, Basel, Switzerland Application April 3, 1940, Serial No. 327,686 In Switzerland March 9, 1939 2 Claims.
The invention relates to a device for pulling down the heel portion of skiing boots and is characterised in that it has an elastic traction member disposed between a plate secured to the ski and, at the rear end of the plate, passed upwards over a roller and provided with a member for connecting it with the heel portion of the skiing boot.
A constructional form of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawing, wherein:
Fig. 1 shows a vertical section;
Fig. 2 shows a corresponding plan View; and
Fig. 3 shows a detail in plan.
The device shown for pulling down the heel portion of a skiing boot has a plate I, which is preferably made of sheet metal, has its edges bent down at an inclination and is of oblong shape, rounded off at the rear. The plate I is mounted on the ski 2 by four screws 3 so that its forward end portion is disposed between the toe rests 4 of the ski connection. In the hollow space between ski and plate I and by means of the two forward screws 3 there is secured an elastic traction member in the form of a rubber band 5 which is rearwardly provided with a small extension 6. This extension of the band is passed through a transverse slot 1 at the rear end of the plate I upwardly over a roller 8 rotatably mounted on this plate I. Above the plate I the extension 6 of the band carries a clasp 9 the base plate 9 of which is bent over into a hook H]. For the use of the device, the hook it is engaged in a stirrup l2 secured to the rear of the heel and centrally provided on its inner side with a recess II. The foot can only be bent by tightening or loosening the band 5. Thus the rear of the foot of the skier can be pulled tightly down onto the ski by the device described if it is desired to obtain a tighter connection between the boot and the ski than can be obtained with a ski connection of the heel traction type. The extension 6 of the band is formed into a loop 6' which permits of rapidly engaging the hook It in the stirrup I2 with a finger, or rapidly unhooking the hook from the latter. Instead of the traction band made of rubber, an undulated wire spring might be used which can be be elastically expanded lengthwise.
I claim:
1. Device for pulling down the heel portion of skiing boots comprising a stirrup for the heel of the ski boot, a plate secured to the ski, the sides of the plate being bent downwardly to provide a hollow space there-beneath, an elastic traction member held between the ski and the plate, a reduced end thereon protruding to the rear of the plate, a transverse slot and a roller at the rear end of the plate, an extension for the reduced end, the elastic member passing through such transverse slot and around said roller, a clasp, carried by the extension beyond said roller, provided with a hook engagement to co-act with the stirrup.
2. Device for pulling down the heel portion of skiiing boots as claimed in claim 1 wherein a loop is provided for the extension of the elastic member to facilitate fitting and adjustment of the device.
GEORGE PFLUGMANN.
