Abstract
281,887. Weatherhead, W. H., and Harding, H. T. J. Jan. 12, 1927. Blocking.-Relates to the separation of the upper and lower moulds in a hat-blocking machine, for removal and insertion of work, and consists in arranging the machine so that the moulds receive movement from a. common source in unison towards and away from each other. The upper mould 7 and lower mould 8 are guided by rods 5 for vertical movement, and are connected by bands 10 passing over pulleys 11. The moulds approximately balance each other, and are moved towards or away from each other by a handle 13 actuating a rod 18 secured to the lower mould and engaging a guide 19 bolted to the base. The moulds are automatically locked when they reach their closed position. To this end, a spring-pressed plunger 20 slides under the rod 18 on this reaching its uppermost position. This plunger is retracted, when desired, by a treadle 24. The upper mould carries a centrally-pivoted arm, the ends of which carry vertical rods 27. The arm is urged by a spring 28, so that on the upper mould descending to its limit the rods 27 swing into position between the mould and a. fixed top plate 6. The points at which the bands 10 are fixed to the moulds may be arranged to give a central pull, guide pulleys then being necessary.
